Vernissage – Expo “Images, objets, espaces”

Filed under: Family & Friends, design, paris, the future?

The vernissage of Daka’s master class expo was yesterday evening. Pics are here!

Twingo on steroids

Filed under: Renault, Twingo, blogs, paris, reflections, slovenia

I rarely blog about my job, because what I do on a daily basis wouldn’t interest anyone (except Ignace, since he’s my contact in the Netherlands! ;) ). But apart from my regular job, I’m part of a project group working on the marketing launch of the new Twingo (yes I work for Renault, still). We are the ‘YOUNG‘ group! 25 to 35 years old employees giving their feedback on what the Twingo project team is preparing for the launch of new Twingo targeted specially for young people : urban, ‘fun’, a bit hypish, into technology and connectivity, creative, who like cars but are not dependant on it and so on…;)
The Twingo Concept will be revealed next week by Renault’s CEO at the Mondial de l’Automobile in Paris. There has been a total black out on pictures to avoid leaks which have happenend in the past, in order to have complete exclusivity and to create a real event. People will be stuned : new Twingo is a far cry from the 12 years old toyish feminine but cute previous Twingo. This Twingo Concept is on steroids. It has muscles and is clearly targeting young men. The events which will go on during the car show are quiet cool too. Influencial bloogers will be invited along journalists to cover the revelation and start creating the viral buzz. A first website will be launched on the 28th sept, before the official website featuring a lot of interactive animation will go online a few days later. For this web project and other limited edition Twingos to come, the design agencies have been working with some young fresh webdesigners and the results should be great.

Then the official launch of the new commercial Twingo is planned for 2007. It’s quiet important for Slovenia too, as the car will be build exclusively in Novo Mesto. Check out the Twingo Concept website on the 28th and leave your first impressions of the car here. I’m going to the car show myself on the 2sd oct, so I’ll post some pics here too later on.

Just click on the Latest pics box on the left side content bar and you end up on our flickr account where we upload all our digital pics! The evil side of Flickr is that if you want to create unlimited sets or upload an unlimited number of pics you need to upgrade to a “pro” account and spend 5 bucks a months. If you really want to be part of the whole Flickr thing, it is a must! Otherwise a cool alternative to stock your pictures online is yahoo! photo where you have unlimited space! That’s where we keep our albums.
Latests of those include : drug addicts, beach bummers, and “we want to be tourists in our own town“!

Based on a true story

Fat Freddys Drop concert on tuesday night was perfect!
Perfect place – Cabaret Sauvage rocks + they have a BBQ
Perfect atmosphere – Heavy positive vibes, and smiles on everybody’s face! (I guess the win for France against Spain helped everybody relax!)
Perfect sound – smooth, mellow, ska-isch, funky music with a nice heavy base that put you in a dancing mood

Some pics here or just click play below.

Oh and check out also the website of Son of Dave who opened up the show. This is the stage name of Benjamin Darvill, ex band member of Crash Test Dummies. He’s doing a one man band gig with sampled sound which just kills it rythm ‘n’ blues style.

Quai Branly

The Musée du Quai Branly also known as the museum of “art and civilisation of Africa, Asia, Oceania and the Americas” just opened last week. It’s really close to our place next to the Eiffel Tower. We tried to go there this week-end as it was opened to the public for free for 3 days but this also meant queueing for 3 hours so we are going to wait a bit longer.
Anyway, the site and the building are amazing. The project was made by Jean Nouvel, famous french architect also known for his previous work like the Fondation Cartier of contemporary art.
This museum is in fact the legagy of the current french president, Jacques Chirac. It has become some kind of a tradition for each president to leave his architectural imprint on the Paris skyline. Georges Pompidou had his Pompidou Centre, completed after his death. François Mitterrand a pyramid in the courtyard of the Louvre, the Bastille opera house, the grand arch of la Défense and a national library.
You can check out a few of our pics here!

Donavon Frankenreiter is a talended freesurfer. When he was a kid he was staying at Jack Johnson’s house in Hawaii… Now Donavon is known all over the world for his music! A couple of weeks ago he released his second album entitled ‘Move by yourself’. A mixture of fresh funky tunes and surf vibes, this album has songs which make you want to moooove! That’s what we plan to do on June 28th because we are going to his concert in Paris!! You should too!
Listen to some of his songs here, and watch his videos on his website.

We used one of his songs from his first album on a easy riding video from Daka last winter. ;)

The Palais de Tokyo is the contemporary creation museum of Paris. We enjoy going there because the space is great and the expos are always interesting with huge installations. Plus it’s a well known skateboard spot. We went there today to check out the current expos : “Notre Histoire…”, showcasing the best of the upmerging french artistic scene, and “Ultra peau”, all you want to discover about your skin. Here you can find some of our pics from today’s visit but also some older pics from previous visits in Palais de Tokyo.

Last tuesday, May 9th, the smurfs invaded Paris – first the cows, now the smurfs ;) . No seriously Paris celebrated the European Day by lighting up the Eiffel Tower in blue and the Troca in red. So we went for a long expo photo mission! With the cloudy grey sky the results are quiet surnatural! Some pics are really good and you can check them out here. If you like to get some in high quality just drop us a comment or a mail : we@dikonaca.com.

If you walk around Paris right now, you can spot some funky cows. Cows invaded Paris last week. There are 180 of them all over town. This is part of the Cow Parade Tour which allready took place in New York, Las Vegas, London, Barcelona, Geneva, Tokyo, Sao Paolo, Moscow, Sydney, Prague…We spotted “Geneviève “, “Le Goût du Naturel“, “Mens Agitat Molem” and a few of their friends. You can visit the official french webpage of the expo here and check out a few pics we took here and another nice slideshow found on flickr here.

Musical bike tour!

Weeeeee! First embedded video on the dikonaca blog! Had to switch from blip.tv to youtube to do that, coz blip.tv is not supported by wordpress.com yet. However I’ll stick to our blip.tv video blog, because it offers cool features and it’s always better to back up the challenger. Ok ok enough with the technical sh*t.
The shown video’s quality clearly s*cks and our digital camera is almost dead – as you can see. But it’s nice how an easy bike cruise in Paris can bring surprises and get you to hear different musical stuff.

During the concert of Raised Fist last wednesday, I had a chat with this girl called Cindy from Belgium. She is a photographer – or rather Rock photographer – and she just launched a book entitled “Girl at the rock show“, a “publication dedicated to rock show photography from all over Europe”.
Here is the link to the book, here to her photography site, here to her picture galleries, and here to some pictures of the concert we were at with Tits. Anyway I’m getting too old for this kind of concerts ;)
