A documentary about the history of punk rock in America from 1980-1986. Generally unheralded at the time, the early 1980s hardcore punk rock scene gave birth to much of the rock music and culture that followed. There would be no Nirvana, Beastie Boys or Red Hot Chili Peppers were it not for hardcore pioneers such as Black Flag, Bad Brains and Minor Threat. Hardcore was more than music, it was a social movement created by Reagan-era misfit kids. The participants constituted a tribe unto themselves, some finding a voice, others an escape in the hard-edged music. And while some sought a better world, others were just angry and wanted to raise hell. “American Hardcore” traces this lost subculture, from its early roots in 1980 to its extinction in 1986.
During the concert of Raised Fist last wednesday, I had a chat with this girl called Cindy from Belgium. She is a photographer – or rather Rock photographer – and she just launched a book entitled “Girl at the rock show“, a “publication dedicated to rock show photography from all over Europe”.

East coast hardcore from Sick of it all in legendary, energy packed Gala Hala in Metelkova Ljubljana, next wednesday 19 april. Then it's time for the old school ska punk Goldfinger in Batofar, Paris, on the 27th of april. Next evening get ready for the folk punk from the loud and proud irish men from Dropkick Murphys with Less than Jake for a classical punk show in Elysée Montmartre, Paris, and to round it up some hardcore swedish punk from Raised Fist with Comeback Kid on the 3rd of may at the Loco in Paris again.

Imagine what you get when you bring to your typical peaceful beach town on the French atlantic coast ‘Ronce-les bains’ a bunch of ill-retarded skaters, BMX riders and punkrock beerdrinkers and stage divers…yes you’ve got it : the one and only mighty “Roncefest”. Tits and his crew from etron are organising for the second year in a row this free music festival with skate and BMX demos, expos and good vibes.
We went there last year with Pilou and Erwan to support them, but also surf the surrounding spots on Oleron Is. |
It was good fun, with swiss punkrock band Snitch doing a good show.
