Internet is changing the way we consume videos. The TV era is on the decline.
Here are two videoblogs – among the millions online allreday – on subjects Dikonaca likes : snowboarding and surfing.
www.shralp.com is a weekly video podcast about snowboard events, contest, sessions, parties, gear and so on. It's supported by the guys from Blankpaper Studio, makers of last year original snowboard movie 91 words for snow.
www.surfsessionreport.com is showing regular spectacular surf sessions from Hawaii. Here is some footage from yesterday's session in backdoor.

This is a follow-up post on Timmy Turner. I posted allready about “Second thoughts”, his first surf movie. Well last week was the premiere of his new flick entitled “The Tsunami Diaries” at the Newport Beach Film Festival for which they won the “humanitarian” award. Follow this link for a 3 minute preview
|
THE TSUNAMI DIARIES is the inspiring true story of two best friends who strike out on a quest to document the destruction of the tsunami in Indonesia.
When Pro-surfer TIMMY TURNER (Second Thoughts) and DUSTIN HUMPHREYs pursuit hits a roadblock, they hatch a plan to carry out a relief mission of their own. Acquiring a boat, The Mikumba, and setting sail to the damaged corners of the Indian Ocean.
Timmy brings food, medical supplies, and a few goats, to the neglected remote islands of Northern Sumatra. Recruiting people along the way, including Timmys Mom and MATT GEORGE (In Gods Hands), they form a motley crew of surfers, surf journalists, and doctors, to confront dangerous obstacles around every turn. The Tsunami Diaries is a story of tremendous courage, and the unity of all human beings.

The Flowboard is a concept invented by two design students attending the Art Center College of Design in Vevey, Switzerland. Both snowboarders, and surfers they had the idea to build a board that would perform like a snowboard – but on the asphalt. They found that on a skateboard, you could only lean over a few degrees and then the bushings always gave you resistance in a turn. The two inventors sought a solution that would give a rider the ability to execute more extreme angles while carving without resistance, offering fluid transitions edge to edge. They came up with the concept for a two-wheeled board with two curved axles with one wheel on each and springs on either side. The theory was that wheels would slide along the arced axles as you lean the board to carve.
Available in the states since 1999, it is now possible to buy it online in Europe on their brand new website, where you can also check out some videos of the products.
Honestly, it looks a bit weird, and I don't think hardcore skaters will take these boards seriously…but for oldschool cruzers it can be a good riding experience.
Still in my opinion it's a better concept than the freeboard for example.

This is not your average surf movie! Second thoughts is real hardcore surfing!
With some noodles, a bag of rice or two, and wet lighters and matches, Timmy Turner’s crew set off in to the setting for the film.
The film itself takes place in Indonesia on one of its small islands with a beach full of dangerous reef. The group was put in a situation that seems a lot harsher than that of “Survivor, as they were faced with some severe weather conditions and facing new challenges in their eating habits. They were forced to gather rainwater, as well as salt water, to boil and drink. You are taken along on their journey through the rainforest of Indonesia and their treacherous hikes on their quest for the perfect surfing destination.
Posted later : I was cruising around looking for more info on Timmy Turner and sadly there is bad bad news. He had to get brain surgery last december following a disease he caught in Mexico. He is now recovering slowly. You can show your love and support here.

Winner of a 2006 Brand New Award - the world’s largest start-up competition in the sporting goods industry – Banshee Riverboards creates an entirely new board sport that doesn’t require a boat or gas. Check out their website to see how it works in the video gallery!
The bungee systems from Banshee are unlike anything ever seen on the river before. One end of the bungee system is anchored to any stationary object along the side of the river and you simply use the river current against the bottom of the board to stretch the Bungee System.
After riding 200 feet at 30 miles per hour, the board releases from the Bungee System allowing the rider to carve turns and do all kinds of board tricks: big spins, massive ollies, shuv-it’s, and kick flips, just to name a few. Experienced riders can launch off river features and surf the endless waves created by the river. And best of all, everyone lives near a river! Use yours!!
